Written Exam Components Rescheduled for June 30, 2020

June 19, 2020

  • This plan outlines safety protocols that will be in place during CMTBC’s written exams on Tuesday June 30, 2020, to minimize transmission of the COVID-19 virus.
  • Everyone involved in the administration of CMTBC’s written exams, including candidates, invigilators, hotel staff and CMTBC staff will work within the requirements of these safety protocols.
  • The protocols are consistent with public health and safety guidance provided by BC’s Provincial Health Officer, BC’s Centre for Disease Control, and have been reviewed by CMTBC’s medical consultant, (Iridia Medical) led by Dr. Allan Holmes, MD, FRCP.

Only Asymptomatic People Will Be Permitted at the Exams

Pre-screening for candidates/staff/invigilators

  • All persons attending the June 30 written exams are required to complete the BC COVID-19 Self-Assessment Tool on Monday June 29, 2020.
  • Any persons who:
    • were recommended to get a COVID-19 test and self-isolate by the BC COVID-19 Self-Assessment Tool, or
    • are experiencing symptoms consistent with COVID-19,

will NOT be permitted entrance to the exam and must NOT attend the venue. Candidates will be informed of the pre-screening requirement when scheduling details are distributed by email one week prior to the scheduled examination.

  • Candidates are required to advise [email protected] as soon as possible if they will not be attending the exam for either reason listed above.

Screening on June 30 at the exams

  • CMTBC and its staff, invigilators and exam proctors reserve the right to turn candidates away at the exam if a candidate presents with symptoms consistent with COVID-19.
  • Candidates will be asked health screening questions based on the BC COVID-19 Self-Assessment Tool when they sign-in for the written exams.
  • Protecting the health and safety of everyone at the exams happens one person at a time; individuals who are turned away will be advised to contact CMTBC later in the week. COVID-19 testing may be required prior to further arrangements being considered.

Physical Distancing

  • Each exam room will contain less than 50 persons at all times.
  • Physical distancing markers may be used for the sign-in line.
  • Invigilators/staff will greet candidates at the entrance/s of venues and will direct them to the sign-in location.
  • Physical distancing signs will be placed within the venue.
  • Within the exam rooms, tables/desks will be set up to ensure a minimum of 6 feet / 2 metres between candidates.

  • Will be assigned to, and adhere to, staggered arrival times to minimize the number of candidates arriving at the venue at any given time. Do not arrive early – arrive at your scheduled time.
  • Will not congregate before or after the exams, nor during the break between the two written exams.
  • Should plan to leave the exam area during the mid-day break and upon completion of the exam/s.
  • Must follow directions of invigilators and CMTBC staff at all times.
  • Must not move chairs or tables set out by the venue.
  • CMTBC understands that candidates who were at school together may be reunited for the first time at this exam sitting. Remember to follow public health authorities’ guidance and maintain physical distancing, hand washing, and contact-free greetings.
  • You are reminded that each individual has their own comfort level with measures put in place to prevent transmission of the COVID-19 virus. Please be especially calm, kind, and free of judgement, and permit space and time to each other.

  • Will maintain a physical distance from all persons involved in the exams, where possible.
  • Where physical distancing cannot be maintained, invigilators and staff will utilize a protective barrier: face shield and/or mask.

Hand Sanitizing & Gloves

  • Must sanitize their hands at sign-in. Hand sanitizer will be available at the sign-in desk.
  • Bring a small, clear container of hand sanitizer for personal use during the exam.
  • Follow instructions/protocols set by the venue, for example in the bathroom and hallways.

  • Will sanitize hands upon arrival at the venue, prior to entering the exam room and after coming into contact with high-touch surfaces (e.g. doorknobs).
  • Will wear gloves when handling candidates’ identification and exam material.
  • Follow instructions/protocols set by the venue.

Cleaning & High-touch Surfaces

  • All tables/desks will be sanitized before use and again during the mid-day break.

  • Bring only what you need to the written exams. Items you bring may not be set down on furniture, tables, desks, or the ground. You will be given a large plastic bag for storage of outdoor clothing and other items that will be placed in a designated area within the exam room. You will also be given a large ziploc bag for storage of items that you will be permitted to bring to your exam desk/table.
  • Bring your own pen for sign-in.

  • Will hold the door to the exam room open for you upon re-entry during the exam (i.e., after a bathroom break).

Masks / Face Shields

  • Must wear a cloth or non-medical face mask and/or face shield upon arrival at the venue and keep it on at all times when moving through the venue and exam room/s, including the bathroom.
  • Must remove your mask/shield when asked to do so during sign-in for confirmation of your identity.
  • It is at your discretion whether you will wear a face mask and/or face shield while writing the exam/s. You may remove your face mask/shield when seated during the exam. Consideration must be given to mask/shield storage – the mask/shield must be worn if you require a bathroom break during the exam.
