The Board of the College of Massage Therapists of British Columbia (the “College”) makes the following statement pursuant to s. 53 of the Health Professions Act and the Board Policy on Publication:
On October 4, 2013, Mr. Matthew Romyn was convicted by the Provincial Court of British Columbia of five counts of sexual assault against five former female patients (including a 16 year old) under s. 271 of the Criminal Code. He was sentenced to nine months of incarceration on each count (to be served concurrently) followed by two years of probation.
Conviction of a crime(s) and an order of a sentence by a court is not an admission of allegations made in a complaint or in a citation. Allegations remain unproven unless admitted by a registrant or determined by the Discipline Committee.
